Frequently Asked Questions

Most basic courses (i.e., Concealed Carry, Basic Handgun, Women's Handgun) are $80 per person. Speciality and advanced courses run between $100 and $200 per person. The Real Estate Agent Safety Course is $50 per person. Group discounts can be arranged for all courses. One-on-one or small group personalized training courses are available, with per person prices depending on the instruction to be required.

Most courses are 4 to 4.5 hours in the classroom and approximately 2.5 hours at the range. We can break any course into a consecutive series of 90 minute mini courses, where you take the course over several days. Contact us for more information.

Empowered Firepower can absolutely bring any classroom session to your workplace*. We can even present the classroom portion via Zoom if you would like. *The live fire portion can be performed at other ranges closer to your workplace as long as that range's owner permits outside trainers.

Yes! All Empowered Firepower Basic Firearm classes involve loading, shooting and reloading firearms with real ammunition at an outdoor range. Unlike other less expensive classes that use pre-loaded wax bullets or laser guns, we at Empowered Firepower believe the first time you shoot a gun should not be in self-defense.

In the classroom, all of our instructors are fully qualified women. On the range, in order to insure the safety of all during the live firing sessions, there may be male range safety officers present in addition to the female instructors.

Men are welcome in most of our classes. We have learned that the students who attend our classes have a genuine desire to learn and not disturb the learning experience of others. We do offer classes for women only, if you feel more comfortable in an all women training environment. The quality of instruction is the same in both class audience types regardless of which version you attend.

In most cases, yes, we can. Empowered Firepower is well experienced in working with people who have physical limitations. We welcome the opportunity to find a solution for physically challenged adults.  We work with two firearms training ranges that are wheelchair accessible. Of course, the final answer depends on the individual's capabilities to safely handle the firearm. Please contact us so we can discuss or even meet first in person.

Empowered Firepower specializes in training women, and most of our clients have been over 70 years of age. The key is to work with each individual's strengths and to help them see how capable they can be with the right tools, training, and building up of confidence.

If you need one adult to accompany you to class to assist you with mobility issues, they can attend, but they cannot participate in the class nor receive any training credit. Guests are not permitted on the live fire range due to safety issues and the additional manpower required to watch over guests.

All students must be legally allowed to possess and use firearms per United States and Florida state laws (check this state website to see if you meet those requirements). A government-issued photo identification is also required.

We currently regularly hold live fire classes at three training range locations, two in Citrus County and one in Hernando County.

Empowered Firepower has a class that focuses on Form and Accuracy. This class is ideal for people who need their shooting accuracy analyzed and corrective techniques implemented to have more accurate shot placement. If you possess a Florida Concealed Carry Weapons license, but want more instruction on shooting firearms accurately, you can take this class. If you received your permit training through an expedited class, and still feel there are gaps in your knowledge that are keeping you from carrying or shooting your gun, we recommend you take our Basic Firearm Use and Safety Class to fill in the gaps and to build confidence.

Contact the Tax Collector in Citrus County, Hernando County, or any other County in the State of Florida. We recommend you use their free appointment program to save yourself from long waits. Review the Tax Collector's websites (linked in the first sentence) to see what they will require for your appointment. Bring the certificate of training from our class along with your government-issued photo identification, legal name change documentation (if applicable), and any other documentation that the Tax Collector's Office may require, along with $199 in most cases (see the fee schedules for each tax collector's office to see if you qualify for a reduced rate). The Tax Collector's Office will take your photograph and fingerprints, and you will complete your application there. Depending on the office you go to and whether you pass the background check, they may be able to issue your license during your appointment; others may have to have the State review your application and mail you the license. 

Florida is a shall-issue state with Concealed Carry Weapons permits issued at the state level by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). These laws and reciprocity agreements change frequently, so please check the FDACS Reciprocity Agreement website page before you travel.
